Real Wedding - Ashten & Evan

Honoured, humbled and truly grateful are words that we use every time we talk about Ashten and Evan. After months of trying to plan a wedding through lockdowns and wavering restrictions, this amazing couple finally got to tie the knot in June 2021 with 20 of their closest family and friends. There are simply no words that express how appreciative we are of their unwavering dedication to see their wedding through despite the challenges thrown their way and we were honoured to be a small part of their big day.

Their Story: We initially met at our mutual friend's wedding where I actually turned Evan down for a dance haha (I was on my way out of the venue oops haha) We eventually saw each other at work in passing (as I am a nurse in the ER dept and Evan is a fire medic) and later ended up exchanging phone numbers...and the rest is history. Evan agreed to join me and some friends on a three week backpacking trip through Nicaragua/Costa Rica where we realized just how compatible we are. Over the past 5 years we have been on many adventures all over the world from numerous backcountry hiking trips through the Rockies, hiking the West Coast trail, exploring Indonesia, camping around Maui island, Nashville, Mexico and others. We have made some wonderful memories over the years and are excited to see where life takes us next.

The Proposal: Evan proposed July 19, 2020 at one of our favourite campsites in Banff National Park. We have camped their for the past four years and it's a very special place for us. After our proposal weekend I took some time to write out how the proposal went down and I will share that with you... "We arrived at lot 26 at two jack lakeside campground in the afternoon. We set up camp and started up a fire. Evan was acting himself for the most part, tossing around the idea of taking a nap in the hammock (he had just come off night shift). I suggested we go kayaking but he asked me if I wanted to play dice. I agreed. I went into the tent to look for our games bag (we play cards/dice often) I then sat at the table and pulled out the score sheet and our little zipper pouch that I got in Vietnam years ago which holds our dice. I opened it up and as I reached to grab the dice I noticed a ring. I looked up to see Evan beside me asking me to marry him. My eyes filled up with tears (the happy kind) and so did his. I can't really remember what happened next but I think my initial words were "really?!!". I felt like I was in some kind of happiness shock where I couldn't move or speak. I was just so excited to be staring at my future husband. After a celebratory glass of wine we went for a kayak (with our dog Miley) across the lake where we found a spot to watch the sunset behind the mountains and share a bottle of wine." xo

Most Memorable Moment: We had many but some of our favourites would be sharing our personal vows privately together during the first look, along with the way our family and friends all played a role in making the day so special. Due to restrictions, we had 20 guests but those 20 guests were so supportive and made our day so memorable and fun and we still had a great dance party at the end of the night haha! We were also able to capture a group photo with all of our guests and it is one of our favourite photos from the day.

Hilltop Experience: Hilltop Wedding Center is an absolutely stunning venue. The owners and staff are so kind and went above and beyond for us. During the past year of challenges brought on by the pandemic they were quick to reply to my many emails and extremely accommodating. The facility is beautiful, clean and well maintained. Our wedding day was relaxed, intimate and so special. We will cherish the memories forever. We would highly recommend the venue to any future couples.
